The success of any website depends almost entirely on how it ranks on a search engine like Google or Yahoo. Checking a webpage's ranking manually can take a long time, especially if it is not listed on the first few pages. This is where Rank Tracker comes in. All you have to do is target a website and specify one or more keywords. The software can tell you how the keywords rank on various search engines and it can provide you with a broad range of statistics, including a progress graph, history records and much more. Additionally, the program can help you research and harvest new keywords, to boost your website's ranking.

Rank Tracker is available in Free, Professional and Enterprise editions. The freeware version comes with a few limitations, but you can use it for as long as you want, without paying. The software is distributed for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux platforms. Downloading its setup file and installing its core components does not take more than a minute, regardless of your operating system or your computer's performance.

When launched, Rank Tracker presents a wizard, which guides you through a simple operation. The wizard will instruct you to specify a website's address and select your preferred search engines. The program supports numerous search engines, as well as regional search engines. Finally, you must type in the keywords you want to look up. It takes about two minutes to retrieve the ranking information for your keywords. The results are displayed in a list, on the main user interface, where you can also find graphs, filtering options and much more.

The software can generate new keyword suggestions, based on various criteria. You can perform this operation by following a wizard's instructions. Rank Tracker places a large number of research methods at your disposal, which can be selected in a drop menu. Depending on the selected methods, the program may search for keywords and nothing more or it can harvest keywords from competing websites, retrieve keywords from Google's related searches or perform other operations.

After selecting a research method, you must type in one or more keywords and let Rank Tracker look for new keywords. The results are accompanied by various statistics, such as competition level, cost per click, expected visitors and others. This makes it much easier to decide which keywords you need. You may select multiple keywords and add them on the main interface, to check your website's ranking for those particular keywords.

Your keywords are displayed in a table of contents, along with their ranks for different search engines. You can select different work spaces to display other statistics. The program also allows you to customize your own work spaces. You may create a work space with specific columns and filters, in the general settings menu.
